Sherry Marquez - Candidate for Lancaster City Council
My top priorities are,
- Safer Neighborhoods
- Fiscal Responsibility
- High Community Standards
- Stop Section 8 Abuse
I am a candidate that DOES something and doesn't just talk or complain. I'm not so interested in assigning blame as I am in finding solutions.
For over a year and a half, I have been active in encouraging our Mayor and City Council to catch up in the deficiency of Deputies on the streets - I want them to patrol neighborhoods, not just run from call to call.
The citizens must team up with our Deputies to stamp out rampant crime in our city. It's true we can't put a Deputy on every corner, but we can be their eyes and ears and help them do their job more effectively. Everyone must get involved.
If our city is not safe, it is not attractive, and if it's not attractive, we are not going to attract those businesses that will create jobs to increase our tax base so we can attract the amenities that citizens are asking for.
As the Performance Measurement Committee Chair of A.V. War on Gangs and Crime, I have conducted meetings almost every month for over a year to help educate citizens on how to call in a crime, call in graffiti, and illegal dumping; how to start a Neighborhood Watch, address Section 8/rental property problems, and detect Welfare fraud.
If elected to the City Council I can assure you I will give 100% to the effort and get things done for the citizens, the law abiding taxpayers of Lancaster.
Please vote for me - Sherry Marquez - #1 on the ballot on April 8, 2008.
God bless,
Sherry
